How a choirmaster raped choir member in Lagos

Adewale Babalola, a bricklayer and choirmaster, who allegedly raped a
16-year-old choir member in his church, in Surulere, was on Thursday
arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The accused,
according to the prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, took the advantage of
his relationship with the girl to lure her into his room and forcefully
had a carnal knowledge of her.
Anyawu said the girl reported the matter to her father who in turn
reported to the general overseer of the church but no action was taken,
compelling the father, who is also an evangelist in the church, to
report the matter to the police. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.O.
Soladoye, directed that the case to be forwarded to the Director of
Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and granted the accused bail
in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum with the case
