History has been made as first all-women flight deck crew from Zimbabwe flew the B737 – 200 from Harare to Victoria Falls.

Captain Chipo M. Matimba and Captain Elizabeth Simbi Petros have
become the first female captains in Zimbabwe’s male-dominated airline
industry.
The historical flight was operated by two full-fledged captains who
successfully flew Air Zimbabwe’s Boeing 737 from the country’s capital
to Victoria Falls. They later took to social media to express their
emotions with friends, relatives and fellow citizens.

Captain Matimba wrote:

The news was widely covered by various news sites and was expectedly
greeted with much celebration by Zimbabweans on social media platforms.
The number of women involved in the aviation industry during the last
two decades has steadily increased and women can be found in nearly
every aviation occupation today.
However, the numbers are small by comparison. Women pilots, for
example, represent only 6% of the total pilot population, according to
the International Society of Women Airline Pilots.
