Rubio apologizes to Trump for his 'small hands' attack as relations between the two former rivals get warmer

Former
presidential candidate Marco Rubio said he made things right privately
with Donald Trump after jabbing the now-presumptive Republican nominee
for having 'small hands.'
'I
actually told Donald – one of the debates, I forget which one – I
apologized to him for that,' Rubio said in an interview with CNN's Jake
Tapper, which aired on 'State of the Union' today. 'I said, "You know,
I'm sorry that I said that. It's not who I am and I shouldn't have done
it.'
'I didn't say it in front of the cameras,' the Florida senator added. 'I didn't want any political benefit.'
After
falling behind Trump in Iowa and New Hampshire, Rubio went on a
week-long tear in late February, calling out Trump for his bullying.
At
one rally he memorably asked his audience, 'And you know what they say
about men with small hands?' Rubio's mused, leaving his supporters
momentarily thinking that the senator was calling attention to the size
of Trump's package.
'You can't trust them, you can't trust them,' Rubio relied.
The assertion then caused Trump, standing proudly on the Republican debate stage, to make a rather unprecedented announcement.
'I guarantee you there's no problem, I guarantee you,' Trump said.
Rubio,
now back in the Senate and not seeking re-election – at least not yet –
has been on a bit of a truth-telling tour this week.
To Tapper he rattled off a number of missteps he made as a candidate, including the Trump-like attacks he made on Trump.
'I didn't like what it reflected on me, it embarrassed my family, it's not who I am,' Rubio said.
