Windows Phone Dies, Market Share Falls Below 1%

Microsoft may have been very successful in pushing its Windows 10 operating system
to a lot of computers worldwide but this success doesn’t extend to its
mobile business. As a matter of fact, Microsoft has been struggling to
maintain its position as the third most used operating system and its
little share keeps shrinking. Most Windows mobile users are already
jumping ships, adopting Android OS.
Android OS has been dominating for quite a long time and that dominance seems to be eating deeper into other mobile operating systems. Apple seems to be losing its magic too as its market share too shrank for the first time in so many years.
According to Gartner mobile sales report,
about 2.4 million Windows smartphones were sold on the last quarter
which accounts for only 0.7% of all 349.2 million devices shipped. The
end of the Windows Phone is here already and there seems to be nothing
to stop it. The Surface Phone might change this but most of us believe
the device is only a unicorn.

Samsung maintains its position as the world’s largest smartphone
vendor and several other Chinese vendors have made their way to the top
five, eating even deeper into the market.
Microsoft hasn’t really given consumers something to make it a worthy
mobile platform and Lumia devices have not really been successful.
Perhaps the lack of apps and developer’s reluctance to take the platform
seriously contributed to the fall of Windows Mobile. After all these
years, Facebook just recently released an official app for Windows Mobile.
