Is Facebook Really Paying Celebrities To Use Its Live-streaming Feature

The term Influencer Marketing shouldn’t be foreign to any marketer, and over the years, we have seen several tech companies like Apple, LG, Etisalat, Globacom and others depend solely on it for their campaigns. Based on new reports, Facebook has now joined the league of tech companies who use influencer Marketing in achieving their set KPIs (target).

The reports state that Facebook paid more than $50 million to celebrities and publishers to use its Facebook live streaming feature. Some of these celebrities include Russell Wilson, actor Kevin Hart, and chef Gordon Ramsay.

What they are doing is a push and pull marketing – get people to watch funny or entertaining videos of their favorite celebrities, this will ensure that they engage with the video, and of course, spend more time on the platform. More time means more impressions, more impressions mean more ads and more ads mean…..well you know.

Will this strategy work? Only time will tell, but based on past successes, I reckon it will.
