while inspecting a scene of flood
disaster in Abakaliki
Governor David Nweze Umahi has directed the state Ministry of Environment to issue eviction notice to owners of structures located along water channels to curb cases of flooding in the state.

The Governor gave the directive after an assessment tour of areas affected by flood disaster caused by Saturday night’s rain in some parts of the state.

The Governor who described the disaster as man-made wondered why people build on water ways thereby obstructing smooth flow of water and blocking drainages, and warned that the state government would no longer condone such illegality.

Governor Umahi directed the Commissioner for Works to immediately set in motion process of dredging and expanding the Iyiokwu River while government works out a long-term solution to the flood menace.
